According to extant records New Fairview Baptist Church was formed in 1857. The original church was called Poplar Creek Baptist Church and was an arm of the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. The church was reorganized on the "Sabbath following the 4th Saturday in September 1857"

At the time of reorganization the name was changed to "New Fair View Baptist Church".

The first pastor of NFBC was Rev. John Seiber of Roane County. He began pastoring the church in 1857. His salary at that time was twenty five cents a day. Of course he was only paid on Sundays.
